Only pvp can really sate a lot of gamers appetite for skill based, addictive, always-want-more gameplay. Pvp is also important as many people don't feel like it's worth building powerful characters for pve, as ai can get boring within the first couple of playthroughs. Like also not including things like lfg dungeon finders or flying mounts (mistakes Blizzard devs have admitted they made) or too many waypoints devaluing the world map and stopping natural movement, immersion and roleplaying. Things can be learned from these Blizz history lessons.
Elden Ring launched very OP and the pvp was received very well. Things like not doing pvp scaling or Pandaria being remembered for its pvp because everything felt powerful, rather than having everything feel too nerfed. Blizzard however has learned from so many mistakes in pvp. In a lot of mmos and ARPGs pvp has been developed badly or not given the effort it deserves. I feel Blizz have dropped the ball on pvp. And they don't include the stats for Fortnite, LOL, Valorant, Tarkov etc. You only have to look at steam charts to see how popular pvp games are. Pvp is really important to a lot of old Blizzard fans and modern gamers as a whole. When WOW Classic launched pretty much 9/10 servers became world pvp servers. Rather than low attention span, treadmill, gambling style gameplay. Modern takes on end game and earning gear in a really fun way that includes sense of world building and place and a constant adventure. Immersion and story telling with amazing pve that always feels fun to play. Like moving around the world naturally, social, enjoyable co-op experience. I really want this Diablo to be more like old school Blizz design, with innovation AND modern features. From character builds and skills to lore and theories, we have it all covered.
